FlyBase:Contribute to FlyBase

Due to the abrupt termination of foreign subawards, the Cambridge UK curation team no longer has NIH funding to support the bulk of new curation of data into FlyBase and the Alliance of Genome Resources. The previously NIH-funded biocurators perform core curation of genetic and phenotypic data, and their effort is supplemented by UK grants that support associated projects such as Gene Ontology annotation and scRNA data curation. We are therefore asking for the Drosophila research community to support the core curation in FlyBase by making a modest annual contribution. If we cannot secure annual contributions from fly labs, FlyBase will become frozen in its current state and become progressively less useful.

We will collect annual contributions to FlyBase through the University of Cambridge, UK. We suggest that you contribute £/€200 or $250 per fly person in your lab, per year. If you can contribute more, that is much appreciated; if you can only contribute a smaller sum, then please contribute as much as possible.

Preferred payment option

If you can pay by credit/debit card and do not require an invoice, please make your contribution using the University of Cambridge Online Store as this has a minimal administrative burden. This service will produce a receipt for you, stating ‘Annual contribution to fund biocuration at the FlyBase knowledgebase’ from the University of Cambridge.

Requesting an invoice for payment

Payment through the Online Store guarantees 100% of your contribution is directed to biocuration. We can generate an invoice at your request, but indirectly we incur administration costs. We therefore urge you to seek approval from your finance team to make your contribution through the Online Store. If you do need an invoice, please combine requests from individuals/labs within your organisation and raise one purchase order to cover all parties generously supporting our work.

To request an invoice, please email your institution’s purchase order to flybase-finance@pdn.cam.ac.uk. Your purchase order description is ‘Annual contribution to fund biocuration at the FlyBase knowledgebase’. We can accept payment in GBP, Euro or USD. Please address your purchase order to:
