The Strain Report contains the information for an individual strain.

This is a field-by-field guide to the information provided in the Strain Report. FlyBase attributes data to the publication that reported it, so that users can easily refer back to the original publication if they wish. Thus, where possible in the fields below, the publication(s) that are the source of the information are listed, typically in parentheses to the right of the data.

General Information

Symbol The valid symbol that is used in FlyBase.
Species The species of the strain, with the initial letter of the genus and the full species name listed.
Name The valid full name that is used in FlyBase for the strain.
Member of collection The FlyBase symbol used for a dataset/collection; provides link to the complete dataset/collection report.

Genome Characterization

Genome Sequence For Indicates whether whole genome or specific arm has been sequenced.
Genome Accession GenBank accession number and link.
Genome Assayed For GO term that reflects quantitative trait(s) assayed.
Comments Additional information concerning quantitative trait assay; free-text.

Defined Genetic Components

Homozygous Allele(s) The FlyBase symbol used for relevant allele; provides link to that report.
Heterozygous Allele(s) The FlyBase symbol used for relevant allele; provides link to that report.
Homozygous Aberration(s) / Balancer(s) The FlyBase symbol used for relevant aberration; provides link to that report.
Heterozygous Aberration(s) / Balancer(s) The FlyBase symbol used for relevant aberration; provides link to that report.
Homozygous Insertion(s) The FlyBase symbol used for relevant insertion; provides link to that report.

Phenotypic Data (Undefined Genetic Components)

Phenotype Not Assigned to an Allele

Phenotypic Class A list of statements describing the overall phenotypic class of observed phenotype of the strain.

Each statement contains a controlled vocabulary term from the phenotypic class section of the FlyBase controlled vocabulary that describes the class of phenotype that is observed in the strain, e.g. visible, lethal, circadian rhythm defective.

Phenotype Manifest In A list of the parts of the animal affected by the observed phenotype of the strain. These terms range from the entire animal to subcellular components and are often specific for a developmental stage. Body part and cell-type terms are from the Anatomy controlled vocabulary, while terms relating to parts of the cell are cellular component terms from the Gene Ontology controlled vocabulary.

Phenotype Subjected to Selection

Phenotypic Class A list of statements describing the overall phenotypic class of selected phenotype of the strain.

Each statement contains a controlled vocabulary term from the phenotypic class section of the FlyBase controlled vocabulary that describes the class of phenotype that is selected in the strain, e.g. visible, lethal, circadian rhythm defective.

Phenotype Manifest In A list of the parts of the animal affected by the selected phenotype of the strain. These terms range from the entire animal to subcellular components and are often specific for a developmental stage. Body part and cell-type terms are from the Anatomy controlled vocabulary, while terms relating to parts of the cell are cellular component terms from the Gene Ontology controlled vocabulary.

Assayed for Quantitative Trait

Phenotypic Class A list of statements describing the overall phenotypic class of the quantitative trait being assayed.

Each statement contains a controlled vocabulary term from the phenotypic class section of the FlyBase controlled vocabulary that describes the class of phenotype that is assayed in the strain, e.g. visible, lethal, circadian rhythm defective.
