A large and growing community of Drosophila biologists is producing single cell transcriptomic data with potentially high value to the research community. This includes both individual labs and also large-scale community efforts focussed on sharing and annotating single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets covering the whole fly, such as Fly Cell Atlas (https://flycellatlas.org/). The successful applicant will work closely with the Gene Expression Team (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/about/people/irene-papatheodorou) at EMBL-EBI, in particular those members responsible for the Single Cell Expression Atlas (scAtlas) (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/gxa/sc/home), in order to maximise the usefulness of the scRNA-seq data to the community.
  
The primary responsibility of the FlyBase-Cambridge site is to identify genetic data from scientific articles concerning Drosophila and to record these data in a systematic manner. The data we capture include all genetic objects (genes, alleles, transgenic constructs, etc.) plus associated information such as phenotypes, genetic interactions, gene product functions and models of human disease. Curated data are subsequently integrated into the FlyBase database and made freely available via our website.

Established staff also: research strategies to improve data curation; work with other FlyBase sites to improve data display/querying on the website; interact with our user community by answering HelpMail and giving presentations/workshops at research conferences; have the opportunity to develop programming skills; contribute to FlyBase publications.
