The FlyBase project is an international collaboration of ~35 people distributed at several sites.  All FlyBase staff work as a part of a team, in which curators and software engineers collaborate extensively. The Harvard FlyBase curators focus on curation/annotation of literature and high-throughput data pertaining to the Drosophila genome, transcriptome and proteome.

The selected candidate will be responsible for working with the FlyBase web development group to create, maintain and extend all aspects of the public interface of FlyBase. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable annually based on satisfactory performance. Responsibilities to include system administration of on-premise and cloud infrastructure (installing, configuring, monitoring, security, backups, optimizing, documenting, etc.), helping to design, implement, run, and maintain ETL pipelines, and working with the development team to improve or develop new solutions to meet project goals.
*Handling high-throughput datasets and associated metadata.
 
*Reading and abstracting of data from the current Drosophila literature, including its relationship to human disease, physical interactions, and gene expression.
 
*Annotation and analysis of the Drosophila melanogaster genome, including gene models, mapped mutations, and regulatory features.
 
*Together with curators and developers at other sites, interacting with the broad research community by answering help-mail and giving presentations and tutorials at research conferences.
 
  
FlyBase is constantly evolving, seeking both to improve and to expand its role within the Drosophila and wider scientific communities. We are seeking someone enthusiastic about participating in this process, bringing to the FlyBase group expertise and ideas concerning emerging directions in Drosophila biology and genomic/proteomic analysis.

BA or BS in Computer Science or a related field and 3+ years of Linux system administration experience required.
  
The ideal applicant will also possess or be enthusiastic about acquiring coding skills, including Unix commands, querying relational databases with PostgreSQL, and scripting languages such as Perl and Python.

Must be well organized, detail-oriented, strong interpersonal skills, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision. Must also have experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Perl, Python, etc. Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Docker is a plus.
