FlyBase seeks a full-time scientific curator/annotator to join our team at the Gelbart Lab in the Department for Molecular and Cellular Biology, Harvard. Curational responsibilities at the Harvard site include the scanning and abstracting of scientific literature on the molecular biology of Drosophila, annotation and analysis of Drosophila genome(s), coordination of the inclusion of high-throughput molecular data sets into FlyBase, and design of improved interfaces for providing molecular data to users. Curators work as a part of a team, interacting with biologists at other FlyBase sites, and coordinating with software engineers to develop and improve software. Linux System Administrator (Indiana University site)

The FlyBase group at Indiana University has a position available for a Research Associate specializing in System Administration.

The selected candidate will be responsible for working with the FlyBase web development group to create, maintain and extend all aspects of the public interface of FlyBase. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable annually based on satisfactory performance. Responsibilities to include system administration of on-premise and cloud infrastructure (installing, configuring, monitoring, security, backups, optimizing, documenting, etc.), helping to design, implement, run, and maintain ETL pipelines, and working with the development team to improve or develop new solutions to meet project goals.

BA or BS in Computer Science or a related field and 3+ years of Linux system administration experience required.

Must be well organized, detail-oriented, strong interpersonal skills, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision. Must also have experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Perl, Python, etc. Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Docker is a plus.
